This gallery holds a few mid-day snaps from driving round and climbing part way up Cabezon Peak area, until my camera battery died (oops, I left the spare on my desk). Similar to Devil's Tower in Wyoming, this smaller basaltic neck rises up to near 8000 feet. It is the largest of about 50 necks in the Mount Taylor volcano field. Some others are also shown in the attached photos. Navajo legend holds that this peak is the severed giant's head left from his battle with the Twin War Gods on Mount Taylor. I hope to get back here another time when the light is more interesting.
